Mysterious Death of Theft Suspect Spurs Inquiry

A theft suspect, Suresh Anuragi, arrested over a week ago, has died in medical care following severe chest pain, Jammu police confirmed on Wednesday.

The Madhya Pradesh native, residing in Jammu's Trikuta Nagar, was apprehended on February 4 along with accomplices in a burglary investigation. Police transported Anuragi to District Police Hospital after he complained of severe pain and later to Government Medical College Hospital where he succumbed around 9.30 pm.

Authorities have initiated a magistrate inquiry and informed the NHRC, while a post-mortem is scheduled. Anuragi's drug addiction past is under scrutiny as stolen goods were recovered during his remand, conducted under regular medical supervision.
