The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the petition of Indrani Mukerjea, who faces charges of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, challenging the Bombay High Court's ruling that denied her permission to travel overseas.
A bench comprising Justices M M Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal instructed the trial court to expedite the case's proceedings, aiming for resolution within a year.
The CBI, contesting the travel permission, argued the case's sensitivity, noting that 96 witnesses have been examined so far, with 92 more awaiting testimony. Mukerjea, released on bail by the apex court, pointed out that trial delays stemmed from the vacant trial court bench, while the CBI's appeal led to the high court overturning the special court's initial travel approval.
