The Supreme Court on Wednesday denied the plea of Indrani Mukerjea, who faces charges of killing her daughter, Sheena Bora, to travel abroad. The decision affirms the Bombay High Court's refusal to grant her request given the advanced stage of the trial.
A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal instructed the trial court to complete proceedings within a year. They refused to consider Mukerjea's travel plea, citing no guarantee of her return amid the ongoing trial, which is halfway through examining 96 witnesses.
Mukerjea, a former media executive, was arrested in connection with Bora's 2012 murder. She sought permission to visit Europe for personal reasons. Despite being granted bail by the Supreme Court in 2022, her travel plans were halted following a CBI appeal.
