In an assertive move to curb the rising drug menace, Gatwar Panchayat in Himachal Pradesh has announced plans to withdraw social benefits from families involved in drug-related activities. This follows a similar decision by the Auhar Panchayat, marking a regional crackdown on the issue.
Deputy Pradhan Ajay Sharma disclosed that any individual found participating in drug consumption or trade would lead to their family being deprived of benefits under schemes such as the Below Poverty Line (BPL), Integrated Rural Development Scheme (IRDP), and more. Facilities like house grants and water tank allocations will be withheld as part of these actions.
The Panchayat, led by Pradhan Naval Bajaj, is also initiating a widespread awareness campaign to prevent the youth from succumbing to drug addiction. Efforts will involve cooperation from self-help, youth, women groups, and social organizations, aiming for community-wide support in eradicating this social scourge.
