The Chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has welcomed a landmark decision by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. The court ruled that a person's passport should not be denied simply because of relatives' involvement in anti-national activities.

In a public statement on social media platform X, Mirwaiz expressed hope for those who have been denied travel documents on this basis for years. He highlighted that countless individuals in the region, including children and relatives of militants and political prisoners, have been unable to obtain passports, denying them essential educational and vocational opportunities.

Mirwaiz also noted his ongoing house arrest, now in its sixth consecutive year, on the eve of the religious observance of Shab-e-Baraat. This restriction underscores the political tensions and civil rights struggles within Jammu and Kashmir.
