The Uttarakhand High Court has redirected the bail plea of Abdul Moeed, a central figure in the Banbhoolpura riots case, to another bench led by Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari.

Abdul Moeed, detained following the violent unrest in Banbhoolpura in February 2024, is identified as a significant accused. The unrest erupted after a madrassa, allegedly constructed on seized government property, was demolished—a structure linked to Moeed’s father, Abdul Malik, who is considered the riots' mastermind.

The demolition on February 8 last year resulted in six fatalities and numerous injuries. The high court had similarly dismissed and forwarded Malik's bail application to a lower court previously.
