The appointment of Sarfraz Dogar as Acting Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court has sparked significant controversy. Judges and opposition parties are voicing concerns over what they see as a breach of judicial seniority norms.
Dogar, who was 13th on the seniority list but moved up to second at the IHC, was sworn in by President Asif Ali Zardari, despite opposition from five fellow judges. They argue that Dogar's elevation violates established rules.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, also opposes the appointment, fearing potential bias in cases involving PTI leaders. Meanwhile, Justice Aamer Farooq and six others were elevated to the Supreme Court in a separate event.
