The Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, K Kailashnathan, has called on the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka to hasten efforts to secure the release of fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Karaikal, detained by the Sri Lankan Navy last month.

In a statement from his office, it was revealed that Kailashnathan had reached out to the Indian High Commission shortly after learning of the arrests and the seizure of a fishing vessel by Sri Lanka. The fishermen were reportedly apprehended for allegedly fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters.

The Lt Governor also noted that two fishermen from Karaikal sustained injuries during the arrest and has sought a detailed report on their health from the High Commission. Additionally, the Governor has appealed to the External Affairs Ministry to prevent further arrests and seizures.
