In a significant victory against mobile theft, the Metro unit of Delhi Police has reclaimed over 450 stolen phones, equating to more than Rs 1 crore in value, within just 20 days. This accomplishment was made possible by the focused efforts of specialized teams crisscrossing 16 states to address the rampant issue of mobile theft on the Delhi Metro.
The operation, dubbed 'Mission Reconnect - Your Phone's Journey Back Home', commenced on January 30. It involved the creation of five specialized units tasked with tracking and recovering stolen devices. These teams, led by Deputy Commissioner Hareshwar Swami, targeted areas from Kerala to Jammu and Kashmir and Meghalaya to Gujarat, tackling over 80% of crime in the metro, which is attributed to mobile thefts.
The culmination of these efforts was celebrated at the Utsav Sadan, where a function was held to hand over 201 mobile phones to their legitimate owners. Over 250 complainants were present, witnessing the success of the initiative firsthand. The event marks a turning point in the Delhi Police's strategy to combat mobile phone theft efficiently and effectively.
