Sambhal MP Faces Rs 1.91 Crore Fine Over Power Theft Allegation

The Electricity Department has issued an ultimatum to Sambhal MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq to clarify the Rs 1.91 crore fine pending against him by March 7, due to allegations of power theft. This comes after the MP's lawyer requested additional time during a meeting on February 7.

Executive Engineer Naveen Gautam reported on Saturday that the MP has been issued two notices but has yet to provide any substantial evidence to support his defense. With the next hearing set for March 7, Gautam stressed the urgency of the situation, indicating this would be the last chance for the MP to respond.

The fine, imposed last December, stems from alleged power theft by the MP. If no evidence is presented by the deadline, the matter will be decided without further input.
