Karnataka's Transport and Muzrai Minister, Ramalinga Reddy, stressed the necessity of conducting municipal elections in Bengaluru this May, highlighting it as essential, even if it's against their preference. The city has been without an elected council since September 2020.

Addressing the delay, Reddy recalled timely elections under previous administrations and attributed recent postponements to the creation of a Greater Bengaluru Authority. This new authority aims to restructure governance by allowing up to 10 municipal corporations.

Reddy advocated for multiple corporations to effectively manage Bengaluru's infrastructure, underlining the impracticality of a single commissioner handling citywide concerns, such as roads and stormwater drains. The decision aligns with recommendations from the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill, whose findings are anticipated shortly.
