In the midst of a heated funding controversy, the Congress has levelled serious accusations against the BJP, alleging that the ruling party is involved in anti-national activities by disseminating fake news regarding USAID funding. Congress has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to clarify the government's stance, especially in light of derogatory remarks made by former U.S. President Donald Trump and business magnate Elon Musk against India.
The BJP dismissed these accusations as baseless, calling Congress leader Rahul Gandhi a 'traitor' for allegedly aligning with foreign agencies to undermine India. The controversy revolves around a purported USAID grant that was supposed to fund voter turnout efforts, which Congress claims was falsely reported by the BJP. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh clarified that the funding in question was actually meant for Bangladesh, not India, and accused the BJP of manipulating the narrative for political gain.
The opposition party has further demanded an official white paper to detail the funds received from various international developmental bodies, emphasizing transparency. The Congress is advocating for a legal response against the BJP and its affiliates for spreading misinformation, which they categorize as treasonous.
