Escalating Conflict in Eastern DRC: Alarming Humanitarian Crisis

The Democratic Republic of Congo is facing a dire humanitarian crisis, with over 7,000 deaths and 450,000 displaced individuals due to recent fighting in the east. The M23 group's advances mark the gravest escalation in over a decade, amidst disputed allegations of Rwandan support.

In a troubling revelation at the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo reported that more than 7,000 people have died in ongoing conflicts since January. The violence has also left approximately 450,000 people homeless after 90 displacement camps were obliterated.

The recent advances by the M23 group represent the most serious escalation in eastern Congo's protracted conflict in over a decade. Accusations have surfaced from Congo, the United Nations, and Western nations alleging that Rwanda supplies M23 with weapons and soldiers, claims which Rwanda firmly denies.
