G7 Must Enhance Sanctions on Russia, Says UK PM Starmer
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer urges G7 nations to increase their risk tolerance regarding sanctions against Russia for its Ukraine invasion. Starmer advocates expanding measures, such as targeting Russian oil companies and sanction-evasive banks, while Britain plans its largest sanction package against Russia since the conflict began.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called on the Group of Seven (G7) wealthy countries to adopt a firmer stance against Russia by increasing risks associated with enforcing sanctions over the Ukraine invasion.
Speaking via video link at an international meeting marking the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Starmer emphasized the need for the G7 to prepare for greater risks. This includes revisiting the oil price cap, sanctioning Russia’s major oil corporations, and targeting financial institutions aiding in sanction evasion.
Starmer revealed plans for the UK to roll out its most extensive sanction package against Russia since the conflict erupted. The proposal includes broadening measures against vessels involved in sanction evasion and targeting firms in China and elsewhere supplying military hardware to Russia.
