Tightening Tech: US Plans to Intensify Semiconductor Restrictions on China
The Trump administration is aiming to toughen semiconductor restrictions on China, continuing efforts to limit Beijing's technological capabilities. Talks with Japan and the Netherlands are ongoing to restrict their engineers from maintaining semiconductor gear in China. Further restrictions on Nvidia chip exports are being considered without a license.
In a strategic move to counter China's technological rise, the Trump administration is planning to intensify semiconductor restrictions. This decision builds on the groundwork laid by the Biden administration, according to Bloomberg News.
U.S. officials have engaged in discussions with their Japanese and Dutch counterparts, targeting firms like Tokyo Electron and ASML to prevent their engineers from servicing semiconductor equipment in China.
The administration is also considering more stringent controls on the types and quantities of Nvidia chips allowed for export to China, aiming for increased global alignment with restrictive measures already affecting American companies such as Lam Research and Applied Materials.
