Britain's opposition leader, Keir Starmer, intends to unveil a timeline to raise the country's defence expenditure to 2.5% of GDP, The Sun newspaper reported. This proposal comes ahead of a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The current spending stands at 2.3%, and Starmer plans to discuss this increase further in parliament. The discussions are set against a backdrop of recent U.S. demands for Europe to bolster its security capabilities.

Starmer recently joined European leaders in Paris over rising transatlantic tensions, while efforts continue in talks involving Russia regarding Ukraine. European leaders plan to reconvene in London, following Macron's and Trump's exchanges in Washington.
