In a landmark trial, four members of Hamas faced charges in a Berlin court on Tuesday for allegedly plotting attacks on Jewish institutions across Europe. German prosecutors assert this is the first time militants from the Islamist organization have been prosecuted in the country.
Prosecutor Jochen Weingarten announced that for the first time, individuals are being tried in Germany for alleged ties to the foreign terrorist group, Hamas. He stated the accused were involved in plans to access a clandestine weapons depot in Poland, allegedly guided by the deputy commander of the Qassam Brigades based in Lebanon.
Further allegations against the defendants suggest they were responsible for managing several other weapons caches scattered across Europe, adding a significant layer of concern for potential terrorist activities beyond German borders.
