Drone Strikes Stir Tensions in Russia's Krasnodar Region
Ukraine executed a drone attack targeting Russia's Krasnodar region, notably affecting the Black Sea port of Tuapse and damaging several homes. Russian officials reported no injuries. The attack seemingly aimed at the port area, led to sounds of defensive explosions. The nearby Sochi Airport was temporarily closed.
Ukraine launched a significant overnight drone attack on Russia's southern Krasnodar region, causing damage to several houses, including those in Tuapse's Black Sea port. Russian officials, speaking on Wednesday, indicated that three residential homes were affected, yet no injuries had been reported, according to Governor Veniamin Kondratyev on Telegram.
A fire was reported in a Tuapse home, which has since been extinguished. Sergei Boiko, head of the Tuapse municipality, assured that the air defence systems were operational. The exact scale of the attack remains unclear, but sources noted a targeted approach towards the port area, with locals reporting about 40 defensive explosions.
The SHOT news Telegram channel provided these details, although they remain unverified by Reuters. Ukraine has not provided an immediate response. Tuapse hosts Russia's largest Black Sea oil refinery, a frequent drone target since the onset of the conflict initiated by Moscow against Ukraine three years prior. Rosaviatsia, Russia's aviation watchdog, reported the closure of the nearby Sochi International Airport to air traffic as a precaution.
