Tragedy in Mulund: Temp Driver's Deadly Act of Desperation

In a tragic incident in Mulund, a 56-year-old man, Krishna Daji Ashtankar, allegedly killed his 72-year-old mother-in-law by setting her on fire inside a tempo. In a shocking turn of events, a 56-year-old man identified as Krishna Daji Ashtankar allegedly murdered his 72-year-old mother-in-law, Babi Daji Usare, in the Mulund area on Monday. The altercation, which ended in both their deaths, unfolded within the confines of Ashtankar's tempo where both were immolated.

Details released by the Navaghar police station reveal a fractured family dynamic pushing Ashtankar to this tragic act. After his wife left him to care for a patient in Borivli, Ashtankar was forced to live alone, struggling with alcohol addiction. His anger reportedly stemmed from a belief that Usare encouraged his wife's departure.

According to preliminary investigations, Ashtankar duped Usare into believing she was being taken for a medical procedure. Tragically, once inside the tempo, he attacked her with a heavy object before setting the vehicle ablaze, leading to both his and Usare's demise in the resulting inferno. Police and fire teams were on the scene swiftly, but efforts were in vain as both were pronounced dead at the hospital.
