Shaija's contentious social media remarks, which led to her arrest and subsequent bail, praised Godse for Gandhi's assassination, a stance that has provoked strong opposition from political groups and student organizations.

The appointment is set for two years, but it faces mounting resistance, with the youth wing of CPI(M) planning a protest march. Shaija, meanwhile, prepares to transition into her new role alongside the current dean to ensure a seamless handover.
