The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has apprehended a private tax consultant accused of accepting a bribe of Rs 15 lakh, allegedly on behalf of a senior official from the Goods and Services Tax department in Maharashtra's Thane district.

The operation occurred in an Andheri hotel in Mumbai, involving a well-coordinated sting by ACB's Thane unit, wherein the accused was caught red-handed during the bribery act.

The dodgy transaction was meant to benefit Tatyasaheb Dhere, a deputy commissioner of GST in Palghar, who purportedly sought the sum to lower a business's tax liability. A witness-aided operation led to the private consultant's capture, although the senior official evaded arrest.
