Tensions Rise: North Korea Fires Missiles Amid U.S.-South Korea Drills
North Korea launched multiple ballistic missiles, criticizing joint U.S.-South Korea military drills as provocation. The recent firing coincided with ongoing Freedom Shield exercises. A recent bombing accident further heightened tensions, emphasizing concerns over military activities near civilian areas on the Korean peninsula.
North Korea launched multiple ballistic missiles on Monday, just hours after condemning military drills by South Korea and the United States. Pyongyang labeled these exercises as a 'dangerous provocative act' that might inadvertently lead to a confrontation.
The missiles, believed to be short-range with a range of under 300 km, were launched from North Korea’s western region towards the Yellow Sea. This marks the first ballistic missile test reported since U.S. President Donald Trump assumed office.
The incident comes amidst the annual Freedom Shield drills, which continue until March 20, albeit with live-fire exercises suspended. This decision followed an accident where South Korean jets mistakenly dropped bombs on a civilian area, injuring 29 people.
