In a dramatic escalation, protesters hurled stones at Enforcement Directorate (ED) vehicles in Durg district, Chhattisgarh, on Monday. The incident followed a raid at Congress leader and ex-chief minister Bhupesh Baghel's residence, linked to a money laundering probe involving his son, Chaitanya Baghel.
The stone-pelting occurred in the evening when Congress workers demonstrated against the ED action, described as part of a larger investigation into an alleged liquor scam involving Chaitanya. According to Durg Superintendent of Police Jitendra Shukla, a verbal complaint was filed by ED officials about the violent disruptions.
Officials revealed that the ED's Monday morning raids extended to Bhupesh Baghel's Bhilai premises, as well as to associated locations, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. As protesters gathered, tensions flared, resulting in damage to ED vehicles and a scuffle with the police. Further investigations and legal actions are underway.
