Emergency Directive Amid Insurgent Attack on Train in Balochistan

The Balochistan provincial government in Pakistan issued emergency directives following a train attack by insurgents on Tuesday. The attack targeted the Jaffar Express, traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, and led to a shootout injuring the train's driver.

According to government spokesman Shahid Rind, local authorities are responding with enhanced security measures. The Controller of Railways, Muhammad Kashif, noted that the train was carrying around 500 passengers when armed men stopped it in Tunnel No 8. Communications with the passengers and staff are ongoing as rescue operations are underway.

In response to the attack, emergency protocols have been initiated, including en route ambulances to the site and additional trains for evacuation. Officials are encountering difficulties due to the challenging rocky terrain. The recent spike in insurgency incidents in the mineral-rich province underscores ongoing security challenges.
