A surprise raid orchestrated by the Uttarakhand police has ignited controversy in Bareilly. The operation, involving over 300 police officers led by the SSP from Udham Singh Nagar, targeted alleged drug peddlers in the Fatehganj West area, officials reported Wednesday.
Conducted in the early hours of Monday, the raid saw a convoy of 70 vehicles descend on the area. Local police, however, stated they were unaware of the impending action. 'We were not informed about the operation by the Uttarakhand Police,' confirmed Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya.
The raid resulted in the detention of 16 individuals, although no drugs were recovered. Allegations have emerged from locals accusing the police of vandalism, harassment, and removing surveillance cameras. Despite these claims, no formal complaints have been filed, officials noted.
