NCP (SP) Chief Sharad Pawar highlighted the critical need to balance economic progress with environmental and tribal rights in Gadchiroli, a district rich in forest cover and tribal habitation, at a recent event.

The ceremony honored activists Abhay and Rani Bang for their dedication to the tribal communities in the region. Rani Bang was unable to attend due to health issues. Discussions centered on the environmental and social impacts of proposed iron ore mining projects in Gadchiroli.

Pawar acknowledged the economic importance of these projects but stressed that a viable solution must be found to mitigate adverse effects. He pointed to an upcoming Rs 1 lakh crore investment by JSW Group to establish a massive steel plant, emphasizing both growth potential and environmental responsibility.
