These actions were in retaliatory response to the lethal attack in Pahalgam, south Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, predominantly tourists, last month.

District officials in Poonch are actively monitoring the situation, visiting proposed shelter sites such as Caramel School and Chandak University Campus to assure readiness.
