The Supreme Court on Monday highlighted the importance of a petition seeking amendments to rules for issuing OBC certificates to children of single mothers. A bench led by Justices K V Viswanathan and N Kotiswar Singh emphasized the need for a detailed hearing on the matter.
The plea, backed by a counter affidavit from the Centre, argues that current guidelines contravene constitutional provisions. The petitioner contends that requiring OBC documentation from the paternal side violates the rights of children whose single mothers belong to the OBC category.
The bench referenced previous court decisions on similar issues, underlining the necessity of guidelines from the apex court. The court scheduled the next hearing for July 22, urging parties to submit written arguments and explore scenarios involving inter-caste marriages.
