Drone Tensions: Aerial Defence Confrontations in Moscow
Moscow's air defences intercepted multiple Ukrainian drones overnight, as reported by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, while Russia's defence ministry confirmed destruction of several drones across border regions. Recent months have seen increased drone attacks from both sides, emphasizing a growing aerial conflict amid ongoing tensions.
In the early hours of Tuesday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that Russian air defences successfully downed two Ukrainian drones en route to the city. Sobyanin provided updates via the Telegram messaging app, adding that specialists were examining debris from at least one drone neutralized after midnight.
The mayor further revealed that a third drone, aiming for the capital, was repelled earlier in the evening. Russia's defence ministry also reported the destruction of nine drones within a 90-minute window before midnight, targeting the border regions of Kursk and Bryansk.
Ukraine has been intensifying its drone attacks on varied targets, with a notable operation called "Operation Spider's Web" earlier this month targeting Russian bases. Simultaneously, Russia has ramped up its drone assaults on Ukrainian cities, resulting in significant casualties, including ten deaths during a Sunday night attack on Kyiv.
