Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation for the Kaziranga elevated corridor project, a significant initiative aimed at ensuring wildlife safety and fostering ecotourism in the area. The project, valued at Rs 6,957-crore, promises to curtail accidents on National Highway-37.
The project encompasses the four-laning of a highway section from Kaliabor to Numaligarh and includes approximately 34.45 km of an elevated corridor. It is designed following Supreme Court directives and recommendations from the Wildlife Institute of India. Connectivity enhancement between Central and Upper Assam is a key target, along with protecting Kaziranga National Park's rich biodiversity.
Implemented by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the project, hailed by officials and politicians alike, underscores the commitment to conservation and infrastructure development. Assam's Chief Minister lauded it as a landmark step in wildlife protection, highlighting its significance during monsoon seasons.
