Gujarat's Top Cop Gets Extension

In an unprecedented move, Gujarat Police Chief Vikas Sahay has been granted a six-month extension to his tenure. The Personnel Ministry, citing "public interest," authorized this extension just as Sahay was set to retire.

Sahay, a seasoned officer from Gujarat's 1989 Indian Police Service batch, was due to superannuate on his 60th birthday. The extension defies standard retirement protocol under Rule 16 (1) of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet justified the move as a "special case," ensuring that Sahay's leadership as Director General of Police continues until year-end.
