Indian Railways has continued its drive to modernize and enhance passenger services through a series of tech-driven initiatives. On the 40th Foundation Day of the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled a landmark digital service—the RailOne app—during a ceremony at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
This launch is another leap toward the goal of making Indian Railways a global standard in public transport infrastructure, driven by digital innovation, efficiency, and inclusive passenger engagement.
What is RailOne?
RailOne is an integrated, all-in-one mobile application that combines multiple railway services previously distributed across several platforms. The app aims to streamline the travel experience for passengers by serving as a one-stop solution for most non-reserved services.
The app is available for download on both the Android Play Store and iOS App Store, featuring an intuitive, user-friendly interface designed for convenience and accessibility.
Key Features of RailOne
RailOne combines essential railway services into one compact application. Here are its standout offerings:
-
Unreserved and Platform Ticket Booking: Passengers can now book these tickets digitally and receive a 3% discount on transactions.
-
Live Train Tracking: Real-time updates on train movements for better planning and reduced uncertainty.
-
Grievance Redressal System: Users can file complaints and receive updates on their resolution status through the app.
-
E-catering Services: Order meals onboard trains from IRCTC-approved vendors.
-
Porter Booking and Last-Mile Taxi Integration: Easily book porters at stations and taxis for onward journeys.
Notably, while reserved tickets continue to be handled via IRCTC, the RailOne app has been authorized by IRCTC, much like other third-party apps partnered with it.
User Access and Security
To enhance accessibility and ensure secure usage, RailOne supports:
-
Single Sign-On: Login via mPIN or biometric authentication.
-
Legacy Credential Support: Compatible with existing UTS and RailConnect credentials.
-
Space-Saving: Eliminates the need to install multiple apps for different services, saving space on user devices.
The Next Frontier: Modernizing the Passenger Reservation System (PRS)
During the event, Shri Vaishnaw praised CRIS for its contribution to Indian Railways’ digitization and urged the organization to accelerate efforts on the next-generation Passenger Reservation System (PRS).
Expected by December 2025, the modern PRS aims to be:
-
Agile and Multilingual: Designed to handle ten times the current load, with support for multiple Indian languages.
-
High-Capacity: Capable of processing 1.5 lakh ticket bookings and 40 lakh enquiries per minute.
-
Inclusive: Offering advanced options such as seat preferences, fare calendar, and integrated booking services for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), students, and patients.
This next-gen system will be pivotal in handling the ever-growing demand for train travel across India.
A Vision of Accessible and World-Class Mobility
The launch of RailOne is a significant milestone in the digital evolution of Indian Railways, reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming it into the “growth engine” of India's Vikas Yatra.
As India accelerates toward becoming a digitally empowered society, RailOne epitomizes the ethos of “Technology for All.” It is a major step in democratizing access to efficient, transparent, and comfortable train travel, ensuring that the benefits of modernization are delivered to every citizen.
