UK Cybersecurity Alert: SharePoint Under Siege

Britain's National Cyber Security Centre reported a limited number of UK-based victims in a cyber attack targeting Microsoft's SharePoint servers. These attacks, highlighted by Microsoft, do not affect the cloud-based SharePoint Online in Microsoft 365. The issue exploits a vulnerability, known as a 'zero day'.

On Monday, the United Kingdom's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) announced that a cyberattack had breached a 'limited number' of UK-based servers running Microsoft's SharePoint software. This is part of a broader hacking campaign targeting the system.

Microsoft had previously flagged these 'active attacks' on SharePoint servers used by various organizations. However, the tech giant clarified that the cloud-based SharePoint Online, part of Microsoft 365, remains unaffected by this breach. This highlights the vulnerability known as a 'zero day'.
