The Delhi High Court has cracked down on trademark infringement, ruling in favor of the iconic Veerji Malai Chaap Wale restaurant. The court restrained several eateries and food delivery joints from using similar trademarks and ordered them to pay Rs 5 lakh in costs.

Justice Amit Bansal criticized the defendants for not contesting the lawsuit despite an interim injunction against them. The court resolved that the eateries and delivery platforms, operating in cities including Delhi and Raipur, deceptively utilized trademarks akin to 'Veerji' to mislead customers.

In its decision, the court underscored the substantial goodwill established by the plaintiff through robust sales and promotion, condemning the defendants for taking undue advantage of this reputation. The judgment mandates compensation of Rs one lakh per defendant to the rightful trademark owner.
