Shock in Odisha: Brothers Arrested in Disturbing Rape Case

Two brothers, Bhagyadhar Das and Panchanan Das, have been arrested in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district for allegedly raping a minor over the past year. The girl's father claims intimidation and bribery attempts were made by a panchayat official. A case has been filed under rape-related charges.

In a distressing case that has shocked Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district, two brothers have been taken into custody for allegedly raping a minor. The accused, identified as Bhagyadhar Das (60) and Panchanan Das (58), were reportedly involved in the crime over the past year, leading to the minor's seven-month pregnancy.

The victim's father lodged a complaint at the Kujang police station, claiming that the brothers were employed at a mutt frequently visited by the minor. He further alleged attempts by a local panchayat functionary to bribe and intimidate him into silence regarding the incident.

The arrests have been made under sections of rape and the POCSO Act, though a third suspect remains at large. The case emerged in light of another recent gang rape incident within the district, raising serious concerns about local safety and governance.
