The Supreme Court scrutinized Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court for disputing an in-house inquiry report accusing him of misconduct after a significant amount of cash was found at his official residence.
A bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and A G Masih questioned Varma's participation in the inquiry process, asking his counsel, Kapil Sibal, for clarification.
The inquiry, conducted by a panel led by Chief Justice Sheel Nagu, concluded with a recommendation for Varma's impeachment, now under consideration by Parliament following a letter from then Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna.
