Lebanon's military tribunal has reached a verdict in the 2022 killing of an Irish peacekeeper, sentencing six individuals linked to Hezbollah, according to judicial sources.
One of the accused, Mohammad Ayyad, received a death sentence in absentia. The incident marked the first fatal attack on UNIFIL peacekeepers in Lebanon since 2015.
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has expressed satisfaction with the trial's conclusion, emphasizing Lebanon's dedication to upholding justice for Private Sean Rooney's death.
