Delhi's Disaster Preparedness Put to the Test in Extensive Mock Drill

A massive disaster management mock drill, dubbed 'Exercise Suraksha Chakra', was executed at 55 locations in Delhi and its neighboring areas on Friday morning. The simulated exercise aimed to test the region's readiness for emergencies like earthquakes and industrial chemical hazards, according to officials.
The drill commenced with a simulated earthquake scenario, promptly followed by scenarios of chemical leaks in various industrial and transport zones across all 11 districts of the city. Personnel from multiple agencies, such as fire services, police, and the revenue department, actively participated in conducting rescue and relief operations at key locations including Ramesh Nagar Metro station, Mother International School, and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
The exercise was orchestrated by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in cooperation with the Indian Army and state governments of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) led the coordination efforts for this extensive drill, highlighting the importance of preparedness in potential emergency situations.
