Sonali Mishra Makes History: First Woman at Helm of Railway Protection Force

Sonali Mishra, a 1993 batch IPS officer, has become the first woman director general of the Railway Protection Force. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in the RPF's history. Known for her leadership, she brings over 30 years of experience, having served in various police roles, including international missions.

In a landmark appointment, Sonali Mishra, a 1993 batch Indian Police Service officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, assumed the role of director general of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) as announced by the Railway Ministry.

The cabinet's Appointments Committee sanctioned her position until her retirement in 2026, marking the first time a woman has led the RPF in its 143-year history. Mishra, an officer noted for her professionalism, has held key policing roles throughout her career.

Previously, she served as the Additional Director General of Police in Madhya Pradesh and gained international experience with the UN Peacekeeping Mission. Her focus will be on technological advancement and curtailing organized crime within the force's operations.
