Tragedy Strikes in Gonda: SUV Crash Claims Eleven Lives
Eleven people, mostly from the same family, died when an SUV plunged into the Saryu canal in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. The vehicle was en route to a temple. An SUV accident claimed eleven lives, including nine family members, as it submerged in the Saryu canal in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday. Four individuals sustained injuries. The tragic incident occurred en route to the Prithvinath Temple in Khargupur.
Police officers recovered the bodies with the aid of villagers and rescue teams. The deceased included six women, two men, and three children, as detailed by Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow, announcing an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also conveyed condolences, offering Rs 5 lakh to the victims' families. The entire village remains in shock, mourning the loss. A survivor recounted the road conditions, adding that songs were being sung as the SUV lost control and plunged into the canal.
