CPI's D Raja Urges Modi to Restore Jammu and Kashmir's Statehood

CPI general secretary D Raja has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir. Raja emphasizes that the denial of statehood is not just a regional issue but a constitutional concern affecting the spirit of the Constitution and India's federal ethos.

D Raja, the general secretary of the Communist Party of India, has penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the introduction of a bill to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir during the current Monsoon Session.

Raja emphasizes that the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019, which led to Jammu and Kashmir's downgrade to Union Territory status, remains a contentious issue. He points out that this move affected not only the local populace but also challenged the federal principles of the Indian Constitution.

Stressing that the struggle to regain statehood has been ongoing, Raja highlights recent positive democratic actions by the region's people and calls for immediate legislative action to rectify the situation and uphold constitutional equality and federal integrity.
