Demand for Action: Stop Attacks on Christian Minorities

Thrissur Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath has called for immediate government intervention to curb escalating attacks on Christian minorities in India. Speaking to reporters, Thazhath condemned a recent assault in Odisha, highlighting a perceived threat to religious freedoms and constitutional rights.

The Archbishop detailed an incident where nuns and priests were attacked in Balasore district, allegedly by right-wing activists. Vehicles were obstructed and individuals faced verbal abuse, with mobile phones also confiscated. The CBCI president emphasized that such incidents are becoming alarmingly frequent.

Thazhath criticized the misuse of anti-conversion laws and urged that the government's role is crucial in ensuring safety for minorities. Engaged in dialogue with political entities, the Catholic Bishops Conference of India is pushing for more robust measures to protect Christian communities amid a surge in aggression.
