The Maharashtra government's commitment to strengthening judicial infrastructure was highlighted during the inauguration of the Bombay High Court's new circuit bench in Kolhapur. Chief Justice of India B R Gavai lauded the state for expediting the setup of the bench, addressing previous criticisms regarding infrastructure provisions.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde were present at the event. The bench aims to alleviate the strain on litigants and lawyers from six districts, reducing the need to travel the long distance to Mumbai, where the principal bench is located.
The Kolhapur bench will become operational with a division bench and two single benches serving Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur, and areas in the coastal Konkan region. The new setup seeks to ensure more accessible legal proceedings for the region's populace.
