The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has announced a pioneering step by introducing a brand-new category – “National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) for Content Creators and Influencers” – as part of the National Energy Conservation Awards 2025. This bold move acknowledges the power of the digital community in spreading awareness about energy conservation and sustainability, in alignment with the Prime Minister’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative.
Recognizing the Role of Digital Media in Sustainability
For more than three decades, the National Energy Conservation Awards, instituted in 1991, have honored organizations, industries, institutions, and buildings that have demonstrated outstanding practices in energy efficiency. These awards are considered among the most prestigious recognitions in the field of energy conservation in India.
Now, for the first time, the NECA platform is being extended to the digital ecosystem. With millions of Indians engaging daily with social media platforms, the new category seeks to empower content creators and influencers as catalysts of change. Their creativity, relatability, and reach are expected to inspire citizens to adopt small but impactful measures that save energy and promote sustainability.
Contest Guidelines for Content Creators
The newly introduced category is open to content creators and influencers with at least 10,000 followers or subscribers on any major social media platform. To qualify, participants must submit short videos (up to 90 seconds) in Hindi or any Indian language, accompanied by a typed transcript in English or Hindi.
The themes for content creation include practical, everyday energy-saving practices:
-
Save Energy at Home
-
Set AC at 24°
-
Choose 5-Star Appliances – More Stars, More Savings
-
Energy-Efficient Lighting for Brighter Homes
-
Green and Sustainable Building
-
Celebrate Festivals with Responsibility
Creators must upload their videos on their social media handles with the hashtag #NECA2025 and register their entries via the official NECA portal: [www.neca.beeindia.gov.in].
Recognition at the National Level
Winners under this new category will be felicitated at the National Energy Conservation Awards Ceremony on 14th December 2025 in New Delhi. The ceremony, following NECA tradition, will be graced by the Hon’ble President of India, reinforcing the significance of the award as recognition at the highest national level.
A Strategic Expansion of NECA’s Vision
By creating this new category, BEE acknowledges that the digital community plays an indispensable role in shaping public behavior. Today’s influencers not only entertain but also educate, and their ability to drive conversations around energy efficiency aligns seamlessly with India’s goals of reducing carbon footprint and promoting sustainable living.
Through Mission LiFE, the government envisions individuals becoming active participants in climate action by adopting mindful consumption patterns and environment-friendly practices. The introduction of this award category serves as a bridge between policy and public engagement, enabling the message of conservation to reach millions in a relatable, accessible, and impactful way.
Encouraging a Culture of Energy Responsibility
With India’s energy demand rising rapidly due to urbanization, industrial growth, and lifestyle changes, initiatives like NECA’s influencer-focused awards hold the potential to transform household and community-level behavior. By celebrating creators who promote energy-efficient appliances, responsible festival celebrations, and sustainable buildings, the awards aim to encourage a mass movement of energy-conscious citizens.
As the National Energy Conservation Awards 2025 approaches, BEE’s expansion into the digital sphere signals a new era of inclusive engagement—where influencers become energy ambassadors, inspiring millions to embrace conservation as a way of life.
