High Court Transfers M J Akbar's Defamation Appeal to MP/MLA Bench

The Delhi High Court has recently transferred former union minister M J Akbar's appeal, challenging the acquittal of journalist Priya Ramani, to its MP/MLA bench. This decision was made due to Akbar's status as a former Member of Parliament.

The appeal comes after a trial court acquitted Ramani in February 2021, following her allegations against Akbar during the '#MeToo' movement in 2018. Akbar's legal team argues the trial court's decision was based on incorrect assessments related to criminal jurisprudence.

The defamation case is now set for a hearing on October 15, with Akbar claiming the trial court overlooked vital evidence and tainted his reputation without proper evaluation.
