In a significant breakthrough, France announced on Friday the arrest of a suspect connected to the 1982 attack on a Jewish restaurant in Paris, which resulted in six fatalities and over 20 injuries. Palestinian authorities detained the suspect in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot credited President Emmanuel Macron's decision to recognize an independent Palestinian state as pivotal in enabling extradition requests. Macron expressed appreciation for the collaboration with the Palestinian Authority, emphasizing the shared goal of extraditing the suspect swiftly.

The attack on the Jo Goldenberg restaurant marked the deadliest antisemitic act in France since World War Two, part of wider violence by Palestinian militants from the 1970s. Currently, about 10 countries intend to recognize a Palestinian state, coinciding with the U.N. General Assembly. France reaffirmed its commitment to combat terrorism and antisemitism.
