Supreme Court Adjourns Hearing on Sonam Wangchuk's Detention Case

The Supreme Court postponed the hearing on Gitanjali J Angmo's plea challenging her husband Sonam Wangchuk's detention. Angmo plans to amend her petition. Wangchuk was detained under the NSA after protests in Ladakh. The court agreed to let Wangchuk exchange notes with his wife while his detention continues.

The Supreme Court has deferred the hearing about the plea from Gitanjali J Angmo, challenging her husband Sonam Wangchuk's detention. The new date set for the hearing is October 29.

A bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria acknowledged an affidavit from the Jodhpur jailor confirming that Wangchuk's elder brother and lawyer have visited him. Angmo, represented by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, intends to amend her petition and contest the reasons for her husband's detention.

In court, it was agreed that Wangchuk would be allowed to exchange notes with his wife. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court previously notified the Center and the Union Territory of Ladakh but declined Angmo's request for details on Wangchuk's detention grounds, scheduling further hearings on October 14. Wangchuk was detained following violent protests in Ladakh, which left four dead and 90 injured.
