In a significant boost to the government’s “Ease of Commuting” initiative, the FASTag Annual Pass has witnessed an overwhelming response from road users across India. Within just two months of its launch on 15th August 2025, the scheme has crossed a milestone of 25 lakh users, recording nearly 5.67 crore transactions at toll plazas across the country. This success underlines the growing public trust in the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and its ongoing efforts to digitize road travel.

Key Features of the FASTag Annual Pass

The FASTag Annual Pass offers a seamless and cost-effective solution for non-commercial vehicle owners using India’s vast network of highways. For a one-time payment of ₹3,000, the pass provides either one-year validity or up to 200 toll crossings, whichever comes first.

Once the payment is completed—either through the RajmargYatra App or the NHAI website—the pass is activated within two hours and linked directly to the existing FASTag account of the vehicle owner. This eliminates the need for frequent recharges, ensuring uninterrupted passage through toll plazas.

The pass is currently valid across 1,150 toll plazas located on National Highways (NHs) and National Expressways (NEs), offering convenience and uniformity in travel.

Coverage and Limitations

The FASTag Annual Pass is non-transferable and specifically designed for private vehicles (non-commercial). It is applicable at fee plazas managed by NHAI on NHs and NEs. However, at Expressways and State Highways managed by state governments or local authorities, the FASTag system continues to use the regular wallet balance for toll and parking payments.

This integrated approach ensures that while National Highway users benefit from the annual plan, state-level tolls remain interoperable under the same FASTag infrastructure.

Strengthening Digital Mobility

The impressive adoption rate of the FASTag Annual Pass showcases the success of India’s digital infrastructure in mobility. Since FASTag’s initial implementation, toll collection has become faster and more transparent, cutting down on waiting times, fuel wastage, and cash handling at toll booths.

The new annual pass takes this convenience a step further by addressing the pain point of frequent top-ups, which many users faced earlier. With a single annual payment, travelers can now move freely across the nation’s highways without worrying about balance depletion.

NHAI’s Vision for the Future

The enthusiastic public response reinforces NHAI’s commitment to enhancing user experience and expanding digital solutions. The FASTag ecosystem continues to evolve—integrating parking facilities, fuel payments, and even entry at restricted zones—marking a paradigm shift toward smart mobility in India.

As the initiative continues to grow, NHAI is expected to expand its reach to more toll plazas, parking areas, and urban corridors, ensuring that commuters across the nation benefit from safe, smooth, and cashless travel.

The FASTag Annual Pass stands as a milestone in India’s journey toward a digitally connected, commuter-friendly highway system. With more than 25 lakh users in just two months, it has proven to be both popular and practical—bringing India closer to the vision of ‘One Nation, One FASTag’ and a truly seamless travel experience.
