In a heartfelt interaction that celebrated ambition, resilience, and opportunity, Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, met with interns of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) at Hampi, Karnataka, on 15th October 2025. The event brought together over 60 young interns from across the state, alongside representatives from some of India’s leading corporate partners including Infosys, IBM, Tata Consumer Products, TCS, Bharat Electronics Limited, HAL, Honeywell Technology Solutions, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals, MSPL, and NMDC.
The session served as an engaging platform for dialogue, mentorship, and reflection — showcasing how the PMIS is shaping the next generation of skilled professionals and contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
A Dialogue of Aspirations and Achievements
During the interaction, Smt. Sitharaman encouraged the interns to share their experiences under the PMIS, reflecting on their learning journeys, inspirations, and future goals. The Minister attentively listened to their stories, offering guidance and words of encouragement. She praised the interns for their dedication and the participating companies for fostering an environment of inclusive skill development and practical exposure.
“The Prime Minister Internship Scheme is not only a window into the world of work,” she said, “but also a mirror of the diverse talent and determination that defines India’s youth. It is pleasing to see how this internship is contributing to personality development, enhancing communication skills, and helping young people navigate professional challenges with confidence.”
From Interns to Professionals: Stories of Success
The Minister congratulated several interns who, owing to their exceptional performance, had been absorbed into full-time positions by their host organizations. She emphasized that these success stories illustrate the power of opportunity when combined with effort and perseverance.
Among the most moving stories was that of Kaluva Hari Krishna from Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, the son of a farmer and homemaker. After completing his internship in IT and Software Development at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Hari secured a full-time role with the company. Describing the experience as “truly transformative,” he expressed his wish to receive his offer letter directly from the Minister — a gesture Smt. Sitharaman graciously fulfilled.
Another inspiring account came from R. Lakshmi Prasanna of Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, who joined Infosys through PMIS. Coming from an agricultural background, Lakshmi shared how the internship opened doors to the corporate world, helping her build self-confidence and develop a professional identity.
Equally moving was the journey of Ms. Gouri H, an Embedded Engineer Intern at Honeywell Technology Solutions Lab Pvt. Ltd. from Kerala. The daughter of a single mother, Gouri had excelled academically but struggled to find opportunities in her field. Through PMIS, she finally gained industry exposure and confidence in pursuing her dream career. Commending her determination, the Minister said, “I am deeply impressed by Gouri’s positivity and perseverance. It is stories like hers that embody the true spirit and purpose of PMIS.”
Corporate Collaboration for a Skilled India
The event also highlighted the role of corporate partners in driving the success of PMIS. Organizations such as Infosys, IBM, TCS, Honeywell, and BEL shared their experiences of mentoring young interns and noted that the scheme helps align academic learning with industry expectations. The presence of these companies at the event underscored the growing collaboration between government and industry in building a future-ready workforce.
Executives from the partner companies reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting PMIS and to expand internship opportunities in emerging sectors like AI, data analytics, renewable energy, digital manufacturing, and financial technology.
Empowering Youth for Viksit Bharat 2047
Smt. Sitharaman emphasized that the Prime Minister Internship Scheme is an essential step in India’s broader agenda of inclusive economic growth and human capital development. The initiative aligns with the government’s vision to prepare youth for industry 4.0, enhance employability, and strengthen India’s global competitiveness.
She noted that the government’s multi-pronged approach — combining education reform, skill training, and digital empowerment — is ensuring that every young Indian has access to opportunities that match their aspirations. “The youth of India are not just job seekers; they are the creators of the future,” she remarked.
Fostering a Culture of Adaptability and Lifelong Learning
In her address, the Minister stressed the importance of adaptability in today’s fast-changing job market. She urged interns to stay open to learning new skills, embrace innovation, and continuously upgrade themselves. “Technology and work environments will evolve,” she said, “but what must remain constant is your willingness to adapt, learn, and lead with integrity.”
She also encouraged companies to continue investing in youth engagement initiatives that promote gender inclusion, regional diversity, and innovation-driven mentorship.
Transforming Potential into Progress
The session in Hampi was more than an official engagement — it was a celebration of transformation. The stories shared by interns resonated as testaments to the power of opportunity, guidance, and determination.
Through the PMIS, thousands of young Indians are finding not only employment pathways but also a sense of purpose and belonging in the nation’s growth journey. The program stands as a bridge between education and enterprise, helping turn potential into progress and aspirations into achievement.
As the event concluded, the Minister reiterated her belief that every intern represents a step toward Viksit Bharat — a developed India by 2047. With continued focus on education, innovation, and empowerment, she said, “India’s youth will be the architects of our nation’s brightest future.”
