In a move that has drawn sharp criticism from China, the AUKUS pact between Australia, the UK, and the US has been renewed, signaling increased military cooperation in the Asia Pacific region. The agreement, which includes building nuclear-powered submarines, aims to counter China's growing influence.
Chinese officials expressed strong opposition, arguing that the pact could exacerbate nuclear proliferation and contribute to an arms race. They view the AUKUS and its collaboration with the QUAD alliance as attempts to limit China's ascendancy on the global stage.
Simultaneously, the US and Australia unveiled a new joint venture to expand rare-earth resource development outside of China, addressing supply chain vulnerabilities and reducing dependency on China-dominated markets.
